Biomorphic and Geometric Shapes
MSB 114
This piece was also inspired by Jacob Lawrence's illustrations in his book The Great Migration. I imitated his use of biomorphic and geometric shapes to depict items in our environment. The environment here is a lecture hall at my university during a college worship service.
Art Production Experience Reflection
I can document and reflect upon the mini-lessons and art production experiences I completed this semester in ITE 326, Visual Arts, Elementary.
I can create a title for this art experience: Geometric and Biomorphic Shapes in the Environment
I can describe the instructional strategies used as a motivation for creating my own work of art:
I was motivated to created my own piece during this art experience because I was given the freedom to choose my own environment and which type of shapes (biomorphic or geometric) to include. I was also motivated by being able to use new materials
I can cite a HCPS III in the Visual Arts and the Benchmark I feel this lesson meets:
HCPS III Benchmark FA.DP.1.2 How the Arts are Organized: Demonstrate an understanding of wet media such as ink, watercolor, tempera, acrylics, and mixed media
HCPS III Benchmark FA.3.1.3: Use observational skills in creating an original work of art
I can list the materials I used:
Watercolor paper, paintbrushes, paints, paper towels, cups, water
I can reflect on my personal involvement in the creative process during this art experience, and how I would inspire my students to feel positive about this experience:
I don't really live in an environment that I'm comfortable in and would want to create art from, so I thought of areas other than my living spaces. Eventually I decided on a place that I find myself in a lot and actually pay attention to its aesthetic appearance. I would inspire my students to think of environments that they really enjoy looking at, rather than environments they are in a lot or that have certain shapes. I feel that this would help make their experience a positive one.
I can modify this experience to provide art instruction for different grade levels. List 2-3 ways:
1. Younger students will be given larger paintbrushes since they are still developing their fine motor skills
2. For a challenge, older students can choose to make their piece entirely of biomorphic shapes or entirely of geometric shapes.
I can list 2-3 different ways to integrate other subject matter into this lesson:
1. Math-students can describe the attributes of the biomorphic and geometric shapes using math vocabulary in their pieces
2. Literature-students can write a story about something that has happened in this particular environment
I can list 2-3 teaching skills that I can use as a teacher from this lesson:
1. Assigning brainstorming and sketching as homework to prepare for actual piece.
2. Giving students the choice to work on this piece or on previous unfinished pieces.
I can attach a photograph of my completed artwork: √ Yes No
